Former England international winger Raheem Sterling arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs in a car accident..

The Athletic reported on Sunday, citing sources from the Metropolitan Police, that former England international winger Raheem Sterling, who is currently playing for Feyenoord, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs in a car accident.

According to the report, police responded quickly to a crash on Thursday (May 25th) on the M3 motorway in Hampshire, where a Lamborghini sports car crashed into a roadside barrier. They located and arrested a 31-year-old man at the scene. The man was later identified as Sterling.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated that upon arrival, Sterling was found to be driving in a completely incompetent state. He refused to undergo drug and alcohol tests and was even reported for reckless driving by witnesses. Police also found Class C drugs in his car.

Given the seriousness of the situation, police arrested Sterling at the scene. He has since been released on bail after giving an initial statement, and the investigation is ongoing.

Subsequently, reporters attempted to contact Sterling's agent team but received no response.

This controversial incident is another unfortunate event in the recent career slump of this former Liverpool youth academy graduate.

Since joining Chelsea in July 2022 for £47.5 million, the 31-year-old Sterling has encountered a turning point in his career, and since then, he has experienced a series of setbacks.

Severely impacted by Chelsea's frequent changes in head coaches, tactical systems, and the management's endless and extravagant transfer plans, Sterling's individual performance has undoubtedly declined significantly, even becoming a scapegoat for the team's poor performances.

In the 2024/25 season, Sterling finally got a chance to play for Arsenal on-loan, but he rarely got playing time.

After returning to Chelsea last summer, Sterling faced a half-season without playing time due to being excluded from the team's plans, ultimately leading the four-time Premier League champion to terminate his contract with the Blues 18 months earlier during the January transfer window.

After leaving Chelsea, Sterling moved to Feyenoord on a free transfer.

However, due to a prolonged absence from competitive matches, the former Manchester City striker struggled to regain his former form while playing in Rotterdam, drawing harsh criticism from the Dutch media.

This also dashed his hopes of representing England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Since joining Feyenoord, Sterling has made 8 appearances for the Eredivisie giants in all competitions, providing 1 assist.
