Milner, who played for Liverpool for many years, announced his retirement on his personal social media, officially ending his more than 24-year Premier League career.
Milner, who came through Leeds United, played for clubs such as Newcastle, Aston Villa and Manchester City before joining another Premier League giant, Liverpool, in June 2015, and later Brighton in June 2023.
In addition, Milner won three Premier League titles, two FA Cup titles, two League Cup titles, and one Champions League title during his career.
Milner, 40, posted on social media: "After 24 Premier League seasons, I feel it's time to end my playing career. From making my debut at 16 for Leeds United, the club I've supported since childhood, and becoming the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, I never imagined I would have such a career journey. Until last year, I had difficulty even lifting my foot, but then I returned to the pitch and helped Brighton qualify for Europe for the second time in their history at the age of 40."
"It has been a great honor to have played for Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City, Liverpool and Brighton, and of course I will never forget that unforgettable month at Swindon. Each club has played an important role in my life and career, and I want to thank everyone associated with these clubs, including the owners, staff, coaches, teammates and fans. Thank you for accepting me and for helping me along the way."
It's worth mentioning that during his time at Liverpool, Milner served as vice-captain under Klopp and also occasionally played as a left-back.
Milner continued, “I’ve been fortunate to experience countless unforgettable moments, from fighting to avoid relegation to winning championships, from competing in European competitions to representing England in two European Championships and two World Cups. But more than these achievements, what I cherish most is the camaraderie that football has brought me and the friendships I’ve made along the way.”
"Thank you to all the fans. Your encouragement is more important than you can imagine. And to those who have criticized me and caused me trouble, I thank you too. You were also part of this journey, making the experience more memorable and helping me grow into the player I am today and a better person."
Milner also said, "Thank you to my family, thank you for every sacrifice, every effort, and every encouragement you have made. None of this would have been possible without you."
"I leave the stadium with immense pride, gratitude, and memories that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Football has given me far more than I ever could have imagined, and I will always be grateful for all the opportunities this sport has given me. Thank you to everyone who has been with me on this journey."
