Two spectators banned for life worldwide by NBA for taking a selfie with Wenban

During the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, a spectator rushed onto the Frostbank Center court in an attempt to take a selfie with San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wimbledonama. The incident briefly interrupted the game, and the perpetrator has since been arrested.

An NBA spokesperson announced on Thursday that the spectator who stormed the arena has been banned for life from all NBA arenas, and the second accomplice has also received the same lifetime ban for assisting the act.

After the race, the Bakersall County District Attorney's Office confirmed that the runner was a teenager, but could not release further details of the case due to legal restrictions.

Slow-motion replays showed that when the spectator, holding a phone in his right hand, rushed to the three-point line, Wambanyama appeared visibly bewildered. In a post-game interview, Wambanyama said, "I've never been in a situation like that before, and I didn't know how to react. It really surprised me, almost as much as when a bat flew across the court."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued a strong condemnation, stating bluntly, "I even hesitate to describe that person as a fan; they seem to have other intentions in doing this."

"The other side of the global attention is that some people realize this is a huge platform for doing stupid things. They will be banned for life, not just at the Spurs' home arena, but at every arena in the NBA. If you do this, the consequences will be dramatic."
