Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially announced the termination of their partnership with manager Rob Edwards and his coaching staff. Edwards returned to the club last November, at a time when the club was going through a difficult period. During his tenure, he and his team worked diligently to solidify the team's foundation and drive the club forward.
Following a comprehensive evaluation after the season, Wolves decided that adjustments to their management and coaching structure were necessary as the club entered a new phase. The club acknowledged the difficulties faced by Rob Edwards and his team during their tenure and commended their professionalism. However, the management ultimately determined that a shift towards a different path in football development would be more beneficial for the team's long-term growth.
Wolves executive chairman Shi Yu said: "I want to personally thank Rob Edwards and his coaching staff. They put in everything for Wolves during one of the most difficult periods in recent years."
"Rob Edwards accepted the task of returning to manage Wolves when the team was in a difficult situation. During his tenure, he maintained a high level of professionalism and demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and dedication."
“This was an extremely difficult decision. After the season ended, we conducted a comprehensive and detailed review of the football department. Throughout the evaluation process, we considered several key factors and explored in depth what development path the club needs in the coming years to maintain its continuous progress.”
"This decision is not based on personal character, professional ethics, or work attitude, but rather on a comprehensive consideration of the competitive aspect. We need to clarify which option is most beneficial to Wolves' future development. Although the team has made positive progress at some point, the final judgment is that another direction of football development will be more in line with the club's long-term goals in terms of playing style, team culture, and competitive level."
“Maintaining the status quo is certainly the easier path, but the leader’s responsibility is not to choose the easiest option, but to make difficult but correct decisions when necessary to ensure that the club’s future is built on a more solid foundation.”
"Our goal is to build a football club that can achieve sustained success. This requires a clear vision for development, a high degree of coordination among all aspects of the football system, and the courage to make tough choices when it is in the best interests of the club."
Wolves express their sincere gratitude to Rob Edwards and his outgoing coaching team for their professionalism, dedication and hard work during their time at the Compton training facility, and wish them all the best for the future.
The club has begun the search for a new head coach, aiming to find a suitable candidate who can lead Wolves into a new phase of competitive development. Further updates will be announced in due course.
