Bologna officially announced on Thursday that Vincenzo Itagiano, 48, will no longer serve as the first-team coach, effective immediately.
Italiano took over as Bologna's manager in June 2024, succeeding Thiago Motta, and has since achieved a record of 47 wins, 29 draws, and 31 losses. He also led the team to a miraculous victory in the 2024/25 Italian Cup and reached the quarterfinals of this season's Europa League.
Besides Bologna, Italiano also coached Italian clubs such as San Paolo Vigontina, Arcignano, Trapani, Spezia, and Fiorentina. His most notable achievement during this period was undoubtedly leading Fiorentina to the European Championship final for two consecutive years.
According to the official statement, Italiano's departure was entirely his personal decision: "Italiano told the club that after two successful seasons, he felt his coaching period at Bologna had come to an end, regardless of his future prospects."
"The club thanks Vincenzo for his passion and dedication over the years, and he will be forever remembered in the club's history for leading the team to victory in the Italian Cup on May 14, 2025."
"We wish Italiano and his team all the best for the future."
Bologna has not yet announced a successor to Italiano. According to Italian transfer journalist Orazio Archmando, Eusebio Di Francesco has emerged as a strong contender for the Bologna job. However, his tenure at Lecce will last until June 2027.
Archmando further pointed out that Italiano has already held talks with Napoli's management regarding the coaching position. He and former AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri are both considered frontrunners to succeed Antonio Conte, but Napoli's management now clearly favors Allegri.
