Tedesco has officially taken over as Bologna's head coach, with both parties agreeing to a 2+1 contract.

Bologna announced on Tuesday that Domenico Tedesco has replaced Vincenzo Italiano as the first-team manager, effective immediately. The contract runs until June 30, 2028, with an option to extend for another year.

This move to Bologna also marks Tedesco's return to the professional arena after more than a month of inactivity. In April of this year, he was dismissed as manager after failing to lead Fenerbahce to a title victory.

The 40-year-old Tedesco began his coaching career in 2007, initially working in youth academies at Eichwald, Stuttgart, and Hoffenheim. He officially took charge of the first team independently in 2017, and has since played for Aue, Schalke 04, Spartak Moscow, RB Leipzig, the Belgian national team, and Fenerbahce.

As a prominent representative of Italy's young and promising coaches, Tedesco has led RB Leipzig to the 2021/22 German Cup title and Fenerbahce to the 2025/26 Turkish Super Cup title. He also led Schalke 04 to a Bundesliga runner-up finish and a place in the Champions League Round of 16.

For Tedesco, his first priority upon taking over was retaining 34-year-old Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler. Tedesco highly values Freuler's role both on and off the pitch and sees him as a key figure in Bologna's new cycle.

Tedesco now needs to address the transfer of Jonathan Rowe. The 23-year-old Rowe is one of the most sought-after wingers on the transfer market, with Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Galatasaray all expressing strong interest in him.
