Shams: 76ers Assistant General Manager Jameer Nelson will be promoted to Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations.

According to a report by ESPN's Shams Charania on Sunday, 44-year-old Philadelphia 76ers assistant general manager Jameer Nelson will be promoted to executive vice president of basketball operations. This will make him the second-highest-ranking member of the 76ers' management team, becoming a key deputy to new president Mike Gansey.

Shams Charania also confirmed that Elton Brand is no longer serving as the general manager of the 76ers. He is currently negotiating a new position with the 76ers and their parent company.

As for Prosper Carranwa, the 76ers' assistant general manager, he has agreed to a multi-year contract extension. According to Shams, Carranwa received offers from several teams in the past month.

During his playing career, Nelson played 14 seasons in the NBA, playing for teams including the Orlando Magic, Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, and Detroit Pistons. As a 6'3" (1.83m) and 86kg (46kg) guard, he played 878 regular season games, averaging 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 27.9 minutes per game, and was selected to the All-Star team in 2009.

In November 2020, Nelson, who was born in the Philadelphia area, chose to join the 76ers' management team. He started as an assistant general manager in the Development League and was officially promoted to assistant general manager of the 76ers in May 2025.

In May of this year, the 76ers announced their departure from former President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey. Morey had been in charge of the 76ers' basketball operations for nearly six years, leading the team to a regular season record of 270 wins and 212 losses and making the playoffs five times.
