The Atlanta Hawks officially announced on Monday that they have reached an early contract extension agreement with head coach Quin Snyder. Multiple sources have confirmed that Snyder's term with the Hawks was originally scheduled to expire in June 2027.
The Hawks have not yet disclosed details regarding the contract extension period and related aspects.
Snyder, 59, took over as head coach of the Hawks in February 2023, succeeding Nate McMillan, and has led the team to a regular season record of 132 wins and 135 losses. He has also led the team to the playoffs twice, but was eliminated in the first round both times.
For the Hawks' management, Snyder's core value lies in his ability to maximize the team's potential amidst significant roster changes. This is why, despite parting ways with four-time NBA All-Star point guard Trae Young last season, the Hawks still finished sixth in the Eastern Conference and made the playoffs.
Furthermore, the Hawks have also achieved remarkable success in developing young talent over the past two years. With Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker both winning the NBA Most Improved Player award, Snyder's ability to cultivate young talent has been strongly demonstrated.
In a statement, Hawks President of Basketball Operations Onssie Saleh said, "Quinn has been an outstanding leader for the team, and extending his contract reflects our commitment to stability and continued growth as we move toward greater success. Over the past three seasons, we have seen clear and quantifiable progress despite roster changes, which is a testament to the team culture he has built and the leadership he demonstrates on a daily basis. He has created an environment where players can grow through challenges and support, and this focus on player development has elevated our team's overall level."
