Arsenal U21 manager Potter has moved to Stoke City to become a first-team assistant coach.

English Championship club Stoke City has officially announced the appointment of Arsenal U21 manager Max Porter as assistant coach for the first team.

Potter will join Stoke City manager Mark Robins' coaching staff to prepare for the upcoming 2026-27 Championship season.

The 38-year-old Potter has 13 years of professional playing experience. He joined Arsenal's youth academy in July 2017, where he demonstrated outstanding coaching talent, serving as head coach for multiple age groups including U9, U13, U17 and U19.

In August 2025, Potter took over Arsenal U21 and led the team to a 14th place finish in the Premier League 2 last season. During his time in North London, he worked closely with Arsenal first-team manager Mikel Arteta, successfully nurturing numerous young stars, including England international Lewis Skelley and PFA Young Player of the Year nominee Dowman.

Stoke City's sporting director, Jonathan Walters, warmly welcomed Potter's arrival. He stated that Potter comes from one of the best football development environments in England and is one of the most promising young coaches in the world. The club highly values Potter's ambition, energy, and drive, and firmly believes that his addition will be a crucial boost to the coaching staff.

With the new season approaching, Potter will work closely with assistant coach Robley, first-team coach Shawcross, and goalkeeping coach Bessett to assist manager Robbins in preparing for the new season. Arsenal also expressed their gratitude for Potter's contributions over the years and wished him all the best for his future career.
