The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) officially announced on Tuesday that 54-year-old Sabri Ramouchi will no longer serve as the national team coach, effective immediately.
After a 1-5 defeat to Sweden in their opening World Cup match, Ramouchi's overall record as manager of Tunisia was 1 win, 1 draw, and 3 losses. He subsequently lost the trust of the football association, becoming the first coach to be dismissed after only one World Cup game.
Ramouche's successor is his compatriot, former Saudi Arabian coach Hervé Renard, who will manage Tunisia until the end of the 2026 World Cup. Tunisia is drawn into Group F with Sweden, Japan, and the Netherlands, and will play against Japan and the Netherlands on June 20 and 25 respectively.
The 57-year-old Renard led Zambia and Ivory Coast to the Africa Cup of Nations and also represented Morocco and Saudi Arabia in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. He has been unemployed since being dismissed from Saudi Arabia in April this year.
Regarding Ramouchi's departure, Renard said in his first press conference after taking office: "I know Sabri Ramouchi, and he paid the price for that 1-5 defeat. The players are sad for him, and I also extend my condolences to him and his coaching team."
"I told the players: Hold your heads high and keep going. Representing your country is both an honor and a responsibility."
"I know everyone has high hopes for me. We still have two group stage matches, and nothing is set in stone yet."
"When the Tunisian Football Federation contacted me, I didn't hesitate at all. This is the World Cup. There's always a way out. Although it's not an easy challenge, it's very motivating."
