English football is seeing a change in its managerial role. 43-year-old Gary O'Neil is set to leave Ligue 1 side Strasbourg and return to England to become the new manager of Premier League newcomers Maidswich Town.
According to media reports, only details remain to be finalized between the two sides. Previously, Kieran McKenna announced his departure after leading Ipswich Town to promotion to the Premier League for the second time, and O'Neill is now taking over his position.
O'Neill took charge of Strasbourg, a team owned by the BlueCo consortium, in January of this year. Last season, he led the team to an eighth-place finish in Ligue 1 and a run to the UEFA semi-finals. It is understood that O'Neill's successful transfer was due to his long-standing good relationship with Ipswich Town CEO Mark Ashton.
Meanwhile, Burnley, relegated to the Championship, are also pushing forward with their managerial search. Following the departure of former manager Scott Parker, Burnley have contacted the Football Association of Wales to lobby for Craig Bellamy to become their new manager.
Bellamy previously served as an assistant coach at Burnley and briefly acted as interim head coach when Vincent Kompany left in 2024.
Despite receiving an offer from Celtic and expressing his desire to lead the team in the 2028 European Championship, Bellamy has publicly stated his interest in managing a club. Burnley had also previously been interested in Russell Martin, but Martin has since taken over Leicester City.
