Liverpool legends Kevin Keegan, John Barnes and Sir Kenny Dalglish unfortunately diagnosed with cancer..

Liverpool announced the devastating news on their official website over three consecutive days, from Sunday to Tuesday, that three club legends — Kevin Keegan, John Barnes, and Sir Kenny Douglish — have all been diagnosed with cancer.

According to Liverpool's official statement, Kevin Keegan was diagnosed with stomach cancer in January 2026 after experiencing abdominal pain during hospitalization following a car accident. His cancer has recently progressed to terminal stage.

Sir Kenny Dalglish accidentally disclosed his cancer diagnosis and is undergoing treatment while using social media messaging.

John Barnes confirmed during a BBC radio appearance that he was inspired by the courageous battles of the two predecessors and decided to no longer hide his prostate cancer diagnosis. He also confirmed that he has undergone chemotherapy and his recovery is progressing smoothly.

Given the pivotal role these three men play in Liverpool's history and achievements, the club, on behalf of all staff and fans, extends its sincerest blessings to Keegan, Barnes, and Sir Dalglish, and will fully support their fight against cancer.

With the devastating news of Keegan, Barnes, and Sir Dalglish's cancer diagnoses, Liverpool have undoubtedly faced another heartbreaking moment during the 2025/26 season.

The Reds first suffered the tragic loss in July 2025 with the sudden death of 28-year-old Portugal international striker Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a car accident.

Then came the devastating news of the suicide of 47-year-old former women's team manager Matt Beard, who, two months later, tragically died by hanging himself at home due to depression.

The deaths of both men are eerily coincidentally linked to the exceptionally poor performances of the Premier League giants' men's and women's first teams throughout the season.

Keegan, Barnes, and Sir Dalglish are among Liverpool's most famous and successful strikers of the 1970s and 80s.

Each of them made nearly 400 appearances for the Reds during their playing careers, scoring a combined total of nearly 500 goals. They won numerous trophies and are the only Liverpool legends to have won the PFA Player of the Year award with Mohamed Salah and Luis Suárez.

This is why Keegan, Barnes, and Sir Dalglish are still widely regarded by Liverpool fans as among the club's greatest legendary strikers.
