With a 7-1 victory over Curaçao in their latest World Cup match, the German national team has reached a total of 239 goals in World Cup history.
This milestone officially puts Germany ahead of the legendary Brazilian team (238 goals) to take sole possession of the top spot on the FIFA World Cup all-time goalscoring list.
As four-time World Cup champions, Germany has only missed the 1950 World Cup. In their long history of participation, their most prolific single-tournament performance was in the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, where they scored 25 goals and ultimately won the championship; while their most dismal performance was in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where the team only managed to score 2 goals and was eliminated in the group stage.
Currently, the German national team has scored 239 goals and conceded 131 in the World Cup, boasting a goal difference of +108. Brazil (238 goals) and Argentina (152 goals) follow closely behind.
Of the 239 goals scored by the German national team, Miroslav Klose, the all-time top scorer, accounted for 16, followed by Gerd Müller with 14. Other notable players such as Jürgen Klinsmann (11), Helmut Rahn (10), and Thomas Müller (10) also made significant contributions.
This 7-1 victory also marks the third time in World Cup history that Germany has participated in a high-scoring match with seven or more goals. The previous two instances were a 7-1 thrashing of Brazil in the 2014 semi-final and an 8-0 rout of Saudi Arabia in 2002.
This record once again proves that no matter how the lineup changes, German football, which emphasizes efficiency, tactical discipline, and key output, has always been synonymous with scoring goals on the World Cup stage.
